The grandmother tells him to pray so that god forgives him, but The misfit says he is better off on his own. Just after that, the other two men, Bobby Lee and Hiram, come back with Bailey’s shirt, although the grandmother does not realize it was his. She thought that now that Ms. Lockwood had Strat's eyes only for on her, she wouldn’t have chance on marrying who she loved, which was Hiram Stratton, and thought that marriage to someone she didn't love would be better than absolutely no marriage at all.
