Analysis 1: Shot # 1 In our film Unity for Survival, Arellano, Chavez, Martinez, and Segovia, films how families fled the country out of fear. This shot depicts the struggle for survival in the middle of war, along with the need of unity amongst people of different backgrounds. In this shot we used a long shot to show the full scene of the families leaving their homes. Along with a high angle, we are able to show how these people were vulnerable. We will also enhance the shot by following our characters
The genre the film was originally intended to be was horror. But after filming and the editing process started we decided to change the film to a mystery film with a little bit of action in it. The action comes from the gun shot in the last scene. When we decided which of our story ideas or film ideas that we would film, we chose my film idea. This was because the idea we ended up going with was the most practical and had the least number of props needed for the production of the film. Deciding which
The main difference between film noir and the gangster film lies in the disposition of the protagonist. The protagonist in film noir often is more introverted and passive than the typical lead gangster. Additionally, it is typically the gangster who is causing conflict that moves the plot opposed to the film noir lead who is often the victim to his situation. Another importance distinction between the two genres is the focus on the past vs. the present. Film noir usually revolve around some past
“Film Noir” is a term that has been up for debate for an extended time period. Film Noir is French for “Black Film”, it was used to describe a proportion of American films that reached a French audience for the first time after World War II. These American movies depicted or expressed the feelings of this time period. The world was going through a dark and gloomy time. It analyzed the social aspects and it was evident in films in various ways. The movies characterized as “Film Noir” shared themes
I could go back to work the next day to get back in” (Nimoy). Simple little film techniques can go a long way in any scene, shot, and line; “if you get a location for free, there might be something that you can do for them in return” (Stoller). If this were to happen just a simple thank you and adding them into the credits is the least that can be done for someone who let you use their farm or vacation house for a film at no cost to you. After finding the location, and setting up shop; “lighting
Restriction of expression in the film industry is in the form of censorship, which in the UK was set up in 1912 as the British Board of Film Censorship (BBFC) by the film industry as a self-regulatory body charging the film industry for the service. The local councils in the UK usually accepted these classifications. This is a view of the censorship laws and in particular the era of the ‘video nasty’ and how it slipped through the film censorship net. Looking back to the 1930’s, an early example
essay I will be discussing whether female filmmakers in Britain find it easier to make a documentary feature than a fiction feature film in the current British film industry. I will be referring to the opinions and films of Kim Longinotto, Carol Morley, Clio Barnard and Alison Stirling. I will also be looking at the statistics from film festivals and the British Film Institute, and interviews with various British female filmmakers. I will argue that documentaries are easier to make due to them being
Forever Before the Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock made its way into theaters across the world, film was produced in a completely different way. Some of the elements that were in Psycho were things that nobody saw in movies before. According to Entertainment Weekly’s Owen Gleiberman, when the movie came out, it took place in “an atmosphere of dark and stifling ‘50s conformity” and that the elements of the film “tore through the repressive ‘50s blandness just a potently as Elvis had.” (Hudson). Alfred
directed the film, accompanied by screenwriters Peter Benchley and Carl Gottlieb. Jaws has many film techniques that accompany the main characters. The main characters of the filmed are played by Roy Scheider (Brody), Robert Shaw (Quint), Richard Dreyfuss (Matt Hooper), and Murray Hamilton (Mayor Larry Vaughn). Director Steven Spielberg uses many different film techniques to emphasize different scenes in the movie and command the audience’s attention to the screen. The analysis of the film involves examining
Throughout the films I have watched this semester, American Indians have been constructed and represented in many different ways. Throughout this semester, different films in different eras have led to stereotyping American Indians and poorly portraying the construction of Native life. At the beginning of this semester, films portrayed Indians as savages who couldn't kill a cowboy, but at the end of the semester, that stereotype changed into American Indians represented as helpless people who cannot
