since the beginning that the months and months we would spend preparing for one particular day would all be worth it in the end. Taking place at New Castle Fieldhouse in early March 2015, I competed in the IHSDTA Dance team competition with my fellow teammates and members of the NHS dance team. We walked into the vast, expansive Fieldhouse knowing that it was the largest High School Fieldhouse in the Nation. The anticipation in the air was electric and full of excited chatter of girls who had been
is guaranteed to love the show! In order to master the choreography it is essential to bring a notebook to class and take specific notes regarding precise details and counts. This way when one is at home reviewing he or she’s notes as well as the dance, it’s as if having the company of a teacher to remind you of important details that he or she would not necessarily
the team every year is to win, but we also like to have fun. Natalie Meloche elaborates on how she feels about spending countless hours at the studio perfecting her routines, “Going to dance class is my favorite part of my day because I can always escape whatever is going on in my life and just let loose and dance. I also love to see my friends and teachers as well.” In fact, three of the four girls I got answers from said they enjoyed going to class while the fourth had mixed feeling about it.
the company. Overall, the way that they described their movements can give me further understanding with how to further on my dance technique. Working with the company challenged me in physical and mental ways that can improve myself not only in the technical area but as a well-rounded dancer. The dancers used terminology that we use in our everyday lives to explain dance. It challenged me in a physical way by going through the motions of getting adjusted to their style. For example, at the beginning
filled me. I became part of a dance academy when I was 13 years old, and it was because my sister wanted to learn to dance for her Quinceañera. It’s kind of ironic how something that would be very important to me started so simple. But I guess that’s just how the best things in life happens. The first time I dance in public was for a T.V show. There were a lot of people, including my family and some friends. Everyone was so excited because my sister and I were going to dance on TV for the first time
this night was a gem in the 6 months of memories I had collected there. Cultural dance revealed to me the nostalgia of a Renaissance past, which deepened my love for Italian culture. Dance has the ability to reveal hidden intentions of the heart, create compelling stories, and preserve cultures. My dream as a student of dance is to create movement that conveys these things and preserve them for time to come. Dance has always been a part of my life. I choreographed shows for neighbors at the age
Whether an individual dances for fun or they dance competitively, dancing is a great way to meet new people and build relationships. Genre Analysis: English in Academic and Research Settings, a book written by John M. Swales, elaborates on discourse communities and the six characteristics of these communities. “A ‘discourse community’ is a group of people who share certain language-using practices... to extent ‘discourse community’ borrows from the literacy-critical concept of ‘interpretive community’”
After spending a semester in improvisation class, I can honestly say that this course has been one of the hardest, annoying, but probably the most relevant and important dance classes I have taken thus far in my dancing life. This course also turned out to be the complete opposite of what I originally thought it was going to be like. At the beginning of the semester, I was a firm believer that improvisation, was any movement that a dancer does that is on the spot, random, wild, and without thought
Dance Review From Wednesday, March 1st, to Saturday, March 4th, I attended the American College Dance Association (ACDA) conference. About 20 difference colleges participated in the conference, which took place at Modesto Junior College. The conference was a 4 day event that consisted of 4 adjudication concerts and one final Gala performance. The Gala performance, which occurred on the last night of the conference, lasted a little over 2 hours and showcased the adjudicators’ top 11 pieces from
Dance Lessons My hands were sweating bullets, my stomach felt like it is a butterfly habitat. It was nearly seconds before I was to perform on stage. Here, let me back it up a little bit. It was early September, late August of the year 2007; when my dad and I walked from my old house to a somewhat small house up the road. It was blue and there was a beautiful dance studio in the basement called Bleakers. I was two turning three, so I wasn’t completely clear on what dance was, or what I was doing
