Write the expression for the length of the weld.

l=2b (I)

Here, the width of weld is b.

Write the expression for load

F=0.707hlτallow (II)

Here, the height of weld is h and allowable shear stress is τallow.

Conclusion:

Substitute 50mm for b in Equation (I).

l=2(50mm)=100mm

Substitute 5mm for h, 100mm for l and 140MPa for τallow in Equation (II).F=0.707(5mm)(100mm)(140MPa)=(49490MN)×(1kN1000MPa)=49.49kN49.5kN

Thus, the load is 49.5kN.
