Summary Introduction

Introduction

Food is, for many people, symbolic of social gatherings with friends and family. It is often the centerpiece of such gatherings. But, at its core, food is fuel. Our bodies need this fuel to perform fundamental tasks, as well as to carry us through our daily activities. But, how do we know when it is time to eat? Hunger is the body's signal that it needs more fuel. When fuel reserves run low, our body responds with hunger pangs and a decrease in blood sugar. This drop in blood sugar levels triggers the hypothalamus, creating the drive we feel as hunger.
