Chapter 5.2, Problem 5P

(a)

Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The number vinylic hydrogen in cyclopentene should be determined.

Concept introduction:

  • Alkenes are the unsaturated organic compound having carbon-carbon double bond.
  • The double bonded (sp2) carbon atoms in alkene are called vinylic carbons. and the single bonded (sp3) carbon that adjacent to a vinylic carbon is called an allylic carbon.
  • Hydrogen bonded to a vinylic carbon is called vinylic hydrogen, and hydrogen bonded to an allylic carbon is called allylic hydrogen.

(b)

Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The number of allylic hydrogen in cyclopentene should be determined.
