In a vertebrate’s body, the connective tissue is the most widespread tissue. The connective tissue consists of cells that are embedded within the extracellular matrix and are not attached to one another. The functions of connective tissue are it fills spaces, attach epithelium to other tissues, protect and cushion organs, and provide both flexible and firm structural support. The connective tissue never coats anybody surface.
