Introduction: Point mutation is the mutation that occurs at any one nucleobase present in the DNA strand. Certain bases in the DNA spontaneously mutate to form modified bases. One such modification is the spontaneous deamination of 5-methylcytosine to thymine base, which is the major cause of the observation of hot spots in E.coli chromosomes.
