Chapter 22, Problem 7WWTS
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
Atmosphere is a gaseous layer surrounding the earth and is made up of several gases such as oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapors. The human respiratory system has a group of organs that are involved in exchanges of the gases. The lungs are the principal organs of respiration. Respiration is a process of gaseous exchange which functions to provide oxygen (O2) to tissues and eliminates carbon dioxide (CO2) from the tissues.

Although degradation of O3 happens naturally, there are some man-made substances that cause this process to take pla ce at a rate which is harmful to the environment. One such substance is chlorofluorocarbon or CFC. In the presence of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, a de chlorine (Cl) atom from CFC reacts with O3 and converts it to 02 at a faster rate.
