Concept introduction: Guanosine triphosphate (GTP) is part of the G-Protein–coupled receptor (GPCR). The GDP and inorganic phosphate combine to form the GTP to activate the receptor. The activated GTP with an alpha subunit induces adenylyl cyclase to cleave adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to produce cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP).
