Comparison of shape of the distribution of stem plots of response time of 30 men and 30 women of a class when asked about how many minutes they study on a typical weeknight (rounded to nearest 10 minutes).
Explanation of Solution
Given:Data of stem plots displaying the responses of 30 women and 30 men from a class when asked how many minutes they study during a typical weeknight.
The stem plot of response time of women varies from 60 minutes to 630 minutes. The distribution of stem plot is skewed to left and there is clear gap between 240 and 630 minutes, so there is one outlier.
The stem plot of response time of men varies from 0 minutes to 300 minutes. The distribution of stem plot is approximately symmetrical and there is gap between 240 minutes and 300 minutes, so there is one outlier.
Here the study times less than 100 minutes are very less among women when compared to that of men. So average study times of women are comparatively more than that of men on a typical week night.
