Chapter 11, Problem 1RQ
What is the purpose of nondestructive examination or testing?
Expert Solution & Answer
To determine
The purpose of nondestructive examination or testing.
Explanation of Solution
Non-destructive testing (NDT) is the method of analysis that is applied in the large scale industry to examine the properties of material, structure of the component and surface
defects including the welding defects. It is also called as Non-destructive examination method.
The purpose of nondestructive testing are as follows:
- One of the major purpose for the adoption of non-destructive testing is that extraction of usefulness of the components for the future service. In other words, the components possesses long serviceability.
- During the non-destructive testing there is no damage caused to the component or the product.
- This method is also cost effective as the overall testing cost is much lesser.
- The quality obtained by this method is much good as well as the damage free products are manufactured.
- Another purpose for the adoption of this method is to achieve product reliability.
