There are various reasons why the battle is considered one of the most significant in the civil war. First of all, the confederate forces' loss ends their ambitions to enter the Northern territories to seek the immediate end of the war. Secondly, the confederate forces' casualties were significant, which broke their motivation and exhausted their resources in large numbers. The battle's location was of prime importance as it became a strategic position for the Unionists forces in the coming times.
The courage shown by the soldiers in this battle was truly significant. Even the participation of the women was also decent in various roles in this battle.
