A joint is also known as an Articulation. It is a connection which is formed between the bones in the body, ultimately enabling the entire skeletal structure to work as a functional unit. There are different types of joints in the body. Some lubricate themselves and are frictionless (joints in knee, elbow, shoulder). These joints can withstand heavy forces and compression and maintain smooth movement. Some others are responsible for providing strength and stability (sutures between bones of the skull).
