Expert Solution
Introduction

World War I began on June 28, 1914, with the declaration of war against Serbia by Austria-Hungary following the assassination of the Austrian archduke Franz Ferdinand. Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie were killed by a Bosnian Serb Garvilo Princip while they were on a tour to the Bosnian capital Sarajevo. Austria-Hungary blamed Serbia for the incident as the Serbs were trying for a long to make Bosnia and Herzegovina free from Austria-Hungary. As Russia had an alliance with Serbia, it came in defense of Serbia declaring war against Austria-Hungary. While a complicated network of alliances brought most of Europe into war against each other.
