When adolescents go through identity versus role confusion, the fundamental question they are trying to answer is: Can I contribute something valuable?   Can I be in a relationship?   Can I determine who I am?   Can I keep up with my peers?

This stage comes under Erikson's psychosexual stages. This onset of this set occurs during the adolescent period. This stage is a 5th psychosexual crisis and last long between the age 12 to 18. Here basic virtue is fidelity. In this stage child establish a sense of self identity among the peer and society. In this stage child wild develop sense of freedom for being able to control their fate.

For an example, being able to modify their behavior according to their social group.
