The Assyrian Empire was a kingdom of the ancient Mesopotamian Civilization, one of the oldest known civilization of the world. Assyrian Empire centered around River Tigris in Upper Mesopotamia which is the present day northern Iraq, northeast Syria and southeast Turkey and parts of northwest Iran.
The Empire existed as a state from around 25th century BC until its collapse somewhere between 612 BC and 605 BC. Historians have divided this long span into the Early Period, Old Assyrian Period, The Middle Assyrian period and Neo Assyrian period for ease of studying.
