Given information :

Sample mean for manufactures A , x̅A = 142

Sample mean for manufactures B , x̅B = 140

Population standard deviation for manufactures A ,  σA = 4.

Population standard deviation for manufactures B , σB = 5

Sample size for A and B is same that is , nA = nB= 68.

Significance level , α = 0.1.

Step 2 : Hypotheses Information.

Claim : The voltage of the batteries made by two manufacturers is different.

For the word "different" we use ≠ inequality.

The null and alternative hypotheses are as follows;

Ho : µA = µB

Ha : µA  ≠ µB

Since we have ≠  inequality in alternative hypotheses so it is Two tailed test.

 

Step 3 :

Part 1)

Here note that "Population Standard deviations" are known to us so we will perform Z test for two samples.
