Introduction

Johannes Peter Muller proposed the Law of specific nerve energies, it states that mind has an access to only our nerves and not to the objects in outside world. Also, the content of our mind serves as markers or signs of the objects from our surrounding environment and has no common qualities with them.

Law of specific nerve energies implies that each and every type of receptor is particularly sensitive to only a single type of stimulus known as the adequate stimulus. Adequate stimulus requires a least amount of energy to activate a receptor, when it gets stimulated produces a specific sensation.

Thus, each sensory neuron, irrespective of the kind of stimuli it receives, will activate only a specific receptor yielding a sensation.
