What is the embryonic sac?
Which are the cells that form
the embryonic sac? What are
their ploidies?
The angiosperms are vascular plants that produce flowers and fruits, and they belong to the phylum Magnoliophyta. They make up 95% of all modern land plant species. Examples of angiosperms include roses, apple trees, petunias, corn, grasses, etc.
In angiosperms, the gametophyte is the haploid stage of the plant life cycle, produced from a single spore. The male gametophyte is a pollen grain, and the female gametophyte is an embryo sac.
The ovary of the female flower part may contain one or more ovules, each containing a diploid cell that divides by meiosis to produce four haploid megaspores. In many species, three of these cells disintegrate, leaving one large "megaspore" which undergoes three mitotic divisions to form the embryo sac.
