What is the difference between sects and denomination in a religous society

Religion is the belief system of people on the existence of some supernatural powers. These powers are given different forms of Gods and Goddesses which are worshiped collectively at different religious places.

In many traditional societies, the mountains, rivers, trees, stones and many other things in the environment were worshiped. These were known as 'totems'. The totems were believed to be sacred and any damage to them in any form was prohibited.
