What is the difference between multiple allelism and
polygenic traits?
Multiple alleles are present in the population where many gene variations are present. The alternate form of gene is known as allele. The organisms comprising two copies of gene are diploid and everyone can express two alleles. Polygenic traits are influenced by more than one gene.

Same DNA strand is involved |
Multiple DNA strands are involved |
More than two alternate forms of the gene |
The traits determined by multiple genes |
The single trait is determined by dominance. |
The traits are determined by codominance or incomplete dominance |
For example, Blood groups are present on the same DNA but occupied by either A or B proteins or no proteins. |
For example, antibodies are formed against different antigens on different DNA strands. During an infection, all the strands combine and fight against infections. |
