What is a derivative?

The derivative of a function can be defined in two ways, one approach is graphical and other approach is physical.

To define a derivative of function graphically considers a function. Let  be a point on the graph.

Then, slope of straight line passing through this will point will be given as,

This straight line will represent the tangent line passing through the point  having the slope given as above formula.
