What evidence/reasons is there for changing domestic roles (families are becoming more symmetrical)?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Willmott and Young were inspired by the works of sociologist like Talcott Parsons and developed ideas about family life. Young and Willmott in 1973 contended that the 'symmetrical family' was now very common in England and conjugal roles were more shared and that financial responsibilities were shared all the more similarly.

Gatrell in 2008 showed evidence that several fathers in dual earning couples today assume a greater part in their children's' lives in contrast to those of the past. Some feminist sociologist such as Ann Oakley criticized Willmott and Young's ideas and asserted that the concept of symmetrical family was erroneous.
