President Taft was a believer of liberalism; he was against the state's policy of maintaining the economic sector by keeping their trusts and public sector undertakings.
For Taft, an individual's liberty is essential as he tries to protect the competition which was going on between the private industries for making the availability of goods to citizens. According to Taft, there has to be healthy competition in the market to cheaply provide quality products to consumers. For this, he started deregulating trust or monopoly of state government over the market. A lot of efforts were put forth by Taft for his antitrust movement.
Taft's efforts for the antitrust issue ended with his Presidency as in the 1912 Presidential elections; the American citizens have elected Woodrow Wilson as their President defeating William Howard Taft.
