what did the south have to promise at the end of the war
The American civil (1861-1865) war was a four-year war fought between the states supporting the federal union and the confederate states of America. The confederate states were formed by the eleven southern states that voted to secede from the union. The northern states prospered in the first half of the nineteenth century, whereas the southern states remained backwards due to the predominantly agricultural economy, which was driven by slavery. The slaves used to work in the large farms owned by the masters in the south. The per capita income of the southern whites was double that of northern whites due to an ever-increasing demand for cotton. The production of cotton in the southern states was heavily dependent upon slavery driven labour.
