What are veins?
The circulatory system consists of three systems that work together; the heart (cardiovascular), lungs (pulmonary), and arteries, veins, coronary and portal vessels (systemic). The circulatory system is responsible for carrying and supplying oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to the cells, and to remove cell waste and carbon dioxide from the cells.
The heart pumps the blood to different parts of the body and receives it via blood vessels.
Blood is a fluid connective tissue flowing continuously through the blood vessels due to the pumping action of the heart. The blood consists of different blood cells such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets suspended in plasma.
Plasma is the clear, straw-coloured liquid portion of the blood in which the blood cells are suspended. It is majorly made up of water and also contains proteins, glucose, clotting factors, hormones, carbon dioxide and oxygen.
