Notepad supports less flexibility while word have more flexible than simple text editor notepad and supported by microsoft tech giants, hence it is called as MS word processing software.
MS word files supports more than one extension like .doc, .docx but Notepad supports only .txt extension for text file.
MS word software have many version distinguishable by year like word 2009,2010,2016 etc. while Notepad has their advance version of text editor called as notepad++
