The environmental movement , often called as the ecology movement is a diverse philosophical, social and political movement for addressing environmental issues including conservation movement and green politics. Environmentalists argued for the sustainable management of resources and by planning of environment through changes in public policy and individual behavior. The movement is centered on ecology , health and human rights. 

The modern environmental movement differed from an early form of environmentalism that flourished in the first decades of 20th century, usually called conservationism. It was led by Theodore Roosevelt the  former president of America who was also a  conservationist and naturalist , Gifford Pinchot, the former governor of Pennsylvania. The modern environmentalism emerged as a consumer movement that demanded a clean, safe and beautiful environment as a part of higher standard of living. The modern environment movement extended its activities from the early decades of the 20th century to the last decades of 20th century and even more.
