Question
6. Create a histogram of the means: Using Mega Stat or Excel. For Excel: Make sure to select the
column containing the sample means and check the box for Chart Output – leave the Bin Range
-
box blank.
Exercise #2
Use the Using Excel for Normal Probabilities instructions for the following.
In a recent year, the ACT scores for high school students with an A or B grade point average were
normally distributed with a mean of 24.2 and a standard deviation of 4.2. A student with an A or B
average who took the ACT during this time is selected.
1. Find the probability that the student's ACT score is less than 20.
2. Find the probability that the student's ACT score is greater than 31.
3. Find the probability that the student's ACT score is between 25 and 32.
4. Find the probability that in a sample of size 100, the mean ACT score is between 25 and 32.
5. Find the cutoffs for the middle 90% for the mean ACT scores in a sample of size 100.

Excel Project #3
This is a multi-part assignment using various functions in Microsoft Excel. You should start the project as
soon as it becomes available. You can find all of the procedures for performing the tasks required for
this assignment in the Excel Notes folder in Canvas. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any
questions.
For each exercise, you must:
Copy and paste the output (not the original input data) to the included template
Organize the output in the order of the questions (e.g., Ex #1, Ex #2, etc)
Submit the final Word file with the output to Canvas in the appropriate Excel Project folder
Exercise #1
Construct Sampling Distributions using Various Probability Distributions
Construct a sampling distribution of the sample means from a
Uniform distribution from (0, 1) by taking 1000 samples of size n = 30. For each sample find the mean x
%3D
and then make a histogram of these 1000 values.
Procedure - Uniform
1. Activate cell A1
2. Choose the Data tab, then select Data Analysis>Random Number Generation.
3. Complete the dialog box.
Number of Variables:
30
Number of Random Numbers:
1000
Distribution:
Uniform
Parameters:
Between:
O and 1
Then click OK.
4. Enter the formula = AVERAGE(A1:AD2) in cell AE2 to compute the average of the first sample of
size 30.
5. Activate cell AE2, click the fill handle + in the lower right hand corner and drag to cell AE1000 to
fill the column sample means from the 1000 samples.
