USE DESCRIPTIVE STATS
A report shows that Covid-19 reduced household expenditure in Europe by 8% in 2020. Elsewhere, consumer spending also dropped significantly in 2020, with 4% seen in the United States, and 17% reported in China (Broom, 2021).
After reading the report, Mr. Goh, a student of Singapore University of Social Sciences, was interested to find out how Covid-19 has affected the household spending in Singapore. Surprisingly, he found news saying that consumer spending among Singapore residents was resilient and at a similar level to 2019 (Choo, 2021).
In order to have a better understanding of the impact of Covid-19 on household spending of Singapore residents, Mr. Goh decided to conduct a survey. He got a random sample of 32 students from Singapore University of Social Sciences, and collected data on their average monthly household expenditure in 2019 and 2020. Based on his own experience, he hypothesised that the household expenditure of Singapore residents in 2020 is lower than that in 2019.
(a) Describe 99% confidence interval of the mean monthly household expenditure in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Interpret and discuss whether Mr. Goh can conclude that the household expenditure of Singapore residents in 2020 is lower than that in 2019.. //Show mathematical formula
(b) Apply an appropriate hypothesis test to determine if the household expenditure of Singapore residents in 2020 is lower than that in 2019, at the significance level of 1%. Examine the assumptions required to perform the test. Are these assumptions reasonable? //Show mathematical formula
(c) Criticise the analysis done by Mr. Goh by identifying three (3) concerns. If you have a free hand to study this research question starting from data collection to analysis, explain how you would conduct the project.

- COVID-19 (novel corona virus) took the world by surprise in late 2019. By early 2020, nearly all countries worldwide were affected.Early reports from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that approximately 3% of infected patients in the United States between the ages of 55 and 64 had died. This figure is known as the mortality rate of the virus for this age group. Suppose a sample of 1120 infected patients in the United States between the ages of 55 and 64 were randomly selected and 34 of the patients were known to have died. Use the p-value method to determine if the sample data support the conclusion that the mortality rate of patients between the ages of 55 and 64 is greater than 3%. Two groups of doctors used written prescriptions and had similar error rates before the study. Treating people adequately for hypertension has been diffcult because it is estimated that 50% of hypertensives do not know they have high blood pressure, 50% of those who do know are inadequately treated by their physicians, and 50% who are appropriately treated fail to follow this treatment by taking the right number of pills. Answer the following questions ( please answer all the parts 1,2 and 3): 1) What is the probability that among 10 true hypertensives at least 50% are being treated appropriately and are complying with this treatment?2) What is the probability that at least 7 of the 10 hypertensives know they have high blood pressure? 3) If the preceding 50% rates were each reduced to 40% by a massive education program, then what effect would this change have on the overall mortality rate among true hypertensives; that is, would the mortality rate decrease…arrow_forward
- A poll in June 2020 found that 83% of American parents believe that virtual learning instead of in- person learning widens the equity gap for students. A later poll in October 2020 asked 1025 American parents if they believe virtual learning instead of in- person learning widens the equity gap for students, and found that 820 believe that yes, virtual learning instead of in-person learning widens the equity gap for students.
