Turkish television series are wildly popular both in Turkey and internationally, and place among the country's most well-known economic and cultural exports. Turkey is the world's fastest TV series exporter and the second biggest exporter of TV series after the US. The television series industry has played a pivotal role in increasing Turkey's cultural popularity in the Balkans, the Caucasus, Russia, Latin America, Turkic countries, Central Asia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Arab world, Pakistan, India, Italy, Germany and Bangladesh. The phenomenon of popular Turkish melodramas transcending national cultures highlight the effects of so-called soft power--that is, the ability to promote cultural change through attraction and voluntary identification rather than the use force or give money as a means of persuasion. In the context of Turkish soap operas, this sort of soft-power both directly confirms as well as challenges cultural notions steeped in orthodox Islam. In thinking about the influences of cultural formation and change, therefore, it seems reasonable to the cultural change in other countries that results from Turkish soap operas is best described as ______________ (Change by Choice or Change by imposition; Select ONLY one that applies)that taps processes of ______________ ( Culutral diffusion, Cultural collision, or Cultural imperialism; Select ONLY one that applies)
