Concept explainers
True or false:
the antigen binding site of an antibody is found in the variabe region of the antibody.
Human body has a ability to fight against the foreign substances that invade our body through the immune system, a defence mechanism in the body.
Antigens are foreign substances that invade our body and has a ability to trigger the immune system. Antigens can be viruses, bacteria, fungus or any other substances such as pollens etc that brings allergies or cause disease.
Antibodies also called immunoglobulin, is the protein produced by the immune system in the body in response to the antigen to fight against these pathogens. The major role of these antibodies include binding specifically to the antigen and elicit these antigens to the immune cells. B lymphocytes cell produce the antibody. Different types of antibodies - IgG, IgA, IgE, IgD and IgM.
Step by stepSolved in 2 steps
- True or False: The most abundant type of antibody, IgG, is the first to respond to an invading pathogen?arrow_forwardAntibody heavy and light chain polypeptides consist of repeated domains, each of which is ~110 amino acids and folds up into a compact three-dimensional structure known as an ‘immunoglobulin domain.’ These immunoglobulin domains are: Mixed and matched between different antibody heavy and light chains to produce variability Always identical to each other within a single antibody heavy chain or light chain polypeptide Always differ in amino acid sequence between different light chain polypeptides in both of the two light chain immunoglobulin domains Similar but not identical in amino acid sequence when comparing the domains in a single heavy chain polypeptide Identical in amino acid sequence for every domain when comparing different antibody heavy chain polypeptides to each otherarrow_forwardIn terms of a virus, how could injecting an mRNA sequence trigger an immune response. be sure to also explain how antibodies, antigens, t cells, b cells, and immune memory work within this situation.arrow_forward
- choose one: When an antibody binds to more than one antigenic particle the best description will be: Cross reacting orclonal expansion or proliferationarrow_forwardCertain antibodies bind solely to the folded structure of their target protein ligand, whereas others bind to both the folded and denatured forms of the same protein ligand. Explain what you've noticed.arrow_forwardTrue or False: When a B cell’s antibody interacts with an epitope on the surface of the bacterium, the B cell secretes a toxin that kills the bacterium?arrow_forward
- significance/impact to patience of isolating T cells from blood sample (magnetic beads coated with CD4/CD8 surface markers – desired cell population bind)arrow_forwardwaning immunity occurring with vaccinations. Why does this happen? I need to know where is the answer form (a website, a book...) since I need to make the citations.arrow_forwardA monoclonal antibody molecule has only one Fab domain, while a polyclonal antibody has two Fab domains capable of binding two different epitopes.
