Step 1
A disaccharide is a sugar that is made up of two monosaccharide units connected by a glycosidic bond. Glycosidic linkage is produced when the -OH group on one monosaccharide's carbon number 1 is linked to the hydroxyl group on the other monosaccharide's carbon number 4. Depending on the disaccharide to be synthesised, the two monosaccharides that compose the disaccharide molecule can be the same or different.
