- Figure (b): A diagonal pulley extends outward from the leftmost edge of a horizontal surface. An object of mass mis suspended from a string which passes over the pulley and anchored at the left end of a spring scale. Another string connects from the right end of the spring scale to a nearby wall.
- Figure (d): An object of mass mis positioned upon an inclined plane of angle ?. A string parallel to the incline connects the object to a spring scale which is also parallel to the incline and positioned closer to the top of the incline. The opposite end of the scale is anchored at the incline's highest point.
