Expert Solution
Introduction

Infertility refers to the inability to attain pregnancy after one year of regular unprotected sexual intercourse without the use of contraceptive methods that involves a male and female sexual partner. Infertility may be treated with hormonal therapy, fertility drugs, and surgery.

Clomiphene or clomifene (Clomid) is a fertility drug used for the treatment of infertility in females who have problems with ovulation or anovulation. It is an ovulatory stimulant that works by stimulating the maturation of eggs in the ovaries and their release (ovulation).

Explanation-Answer

Clomiphene triggers the hypersecretion of FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone) from the pituitary gland. It stimulates the development of the ovarian follicle and thereby initiates the release of an egg (ovulation) from the ovary.

The use of clomiphene requires assessment of the menstrual history of the patient. The assessment of reproductive and menstrual history is critical when using clomiphene for the treatment of infertility. Because it is associated with an increased risk of multiple pregnancies (twins or more). Hence the option c is correct.
