Concept explainers
The gas storage tank is fabricated in the following manner: a 10-mm thick plate is rolled to form a cylindrical shell which is bolted on one side, then its ends are sealed by bolting two hemispherical shells. The resulting inner diameter of the tank is 4 m. All bolts have a diameter of 15 mm. If the internal pressure in the tank is 1 MPa, determine the following:
a. the number of bolts needed in each hemispherical shell if the normal stress in the bolts should not exceed 250 MPa
b. the minimum required thickness of the hemispherical shells if the normal stress in the shell should not exceed 125 MPa
c. the hoop stress in the cylinder
d. the minimum require spacing of the bolts in the cylindrical shell if the normal stress in the bolts should not exceed 250 MPa.

The spring has 82 coils and is close-wound with a preload of 18 Ibf. (a) Find the closed length of the spring.(b) Find the torsional stress in the spring corresponding to the preload.(c) Estimate the spring rate. (d) What load would cause permanent deformation?(e) What is the spring deflection corresponding to the load found in part d? 0.162 in - in R 글-in R. Option 1arrow_forward1 Please help ASAP. Help with parts A-B Provide Free Body Diagram, labeled with appropriate quantities to better understand. Also solve. Thank you.arrow_forwardI am ok with parts a) and c) but regarding the part b) I think we should mention the number of loops so the equation should be : SI = ext + int - releases = react. - (3 equ) + (3 equ) ( nb of loops) - releases ( no hinges here )= (4) - (3) + (3)(1) - 0 = 4h degree and if I used the simple method, I brake the frame into 2 membersso r= 2+2+3+3=10 n= 2 membersso r> 3n by 4 degree Does it make sense?arrow_forward
