Centrosome are specialised structures of animal cells, lower plants and primitive flagellates only. The term centrosome was introduced by Boveri in the year 1888. A centrosome is made up of two cylindrical, rod shaped structures called centrioles. These are oriented at right angles to each other. Together they are called as diplosome. Centriole can be differentiated into two regions namely- Central and peripheral.
