Osteology is the scientific study of bones which includes a detailed study of gross structure, microscopic structure, skeletal elements, function, disease, ossification, etc. It is a subdiscipline of Anatomy and anthropology. Bone is a highly vascularised mineralized connective tissue. It is a specialized form of connective tissue which has the ability to grow and remodel throughout the life of an individual. Bones have the ability to repair if broken. Bone contains a mineralized extracellular matrix and specialized bone cells namely- osteoblasts, osteocytes, osteoclasts. They are covered by a periosteum on the outside and an endosteum on the inner side(lumen). The cavity within the bone is filled with marrow.
