Question

Transcribed Image Text:Example 3
The ballistic pendulum was used to measure the
speeds of bullets before electronic timing devices were
developed. The version shown to the right consists of a
large wooden block of mass 5.4 kg hanging from two
long cords. A bullet of mass 9.5 g is fired into the
block, coming quickly to rest. The block and bullet
then swing upwards, rising a distance of 6.3 cm before
coming to rest momentarily. Find the speed of the
bullet prior to the collision.
