The Avengers are having a strength competition. The Hulk is tossing 1.20 x 104 kg busses so they slide on their roofs across a grassy field. The coefficient of friction between the busses and the grass is 0.185. The contestants have to use their strength to stop the bus...shortest stopping distance wins.
Hawkeye steps up first. Hulk throws the bus with a velocity of 8.50 m/s[W]. Hawkeye jumps in and applies a stopping force of 4.00x103 N.
Black Widow is next. Hulk throws the bus with a velocity of 8.25 m/s[W]. Black Widow remembers her physics class and instead of jumping in front of the bus, she drops a 6.00 x 103 kg steel beam onto it to increase the mass and therefore the friction force.
Which bus stops in the shortest distance?
