- The Taylor Rule is given by rt = it +Pt+ 0.5(it - i*t) + 0.5(u*t-ut) The Federal Reserve is targeting 2% inflation and the natural rate of unemployment is believed to be 4.7%. Economic data suggests that the inflation rate is currently 4.7% while the unemployment rate is 9.8%. The real rate of interest is believed to be 2.5%. According to the Taylor Rule, what target should the Federal Reserve set for the Federal Funds Rate? Put your final answer in percentage form (e.g. 30.57 not 0.3057), but be careful about this. If you just use the numbers as is, you don't need to adjust anything. Round your final answer to two decimal places. Both positive and negative answers are possible.arrow_forwardEconomics Assess the following event on the assumption that policymakers are using the Taylor rule as a basis for policy changes, as specified in equation: r = 2 + 0.5(π – π^T) + 0.5(Y-Y^P). All of the managers indicated that the primary determinant of planned investment is the interest rate and not their expected sales. In addition they all told her that their desired investment function is very flat. - What Can the Fed Do about Inflation? In the article by Thomas Hogan, we learn that Russia's invasion of the Ukraine nor the shortage or supply chain issues has not derived the main causes of inflation. (Hogan, 2022) The main cause for the issues that we have been facing come directly from the constant price changes and the monetary policy that is currently in place. We learn that with Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) has not adjusted their monetary policy, and have been raising the rates in such small increments that is causing the inflation to continue in an upward trend. What needs to occur is the FOMC needs to raise interest rates in greater scales in order the combat the inflation that is taking place and stabilize the price levels that are out there. (Hogan, 2022) What needs occur is that the Fed needs to come up with a policy that will allow for a predetermined path that slows down and regulating the money growth back to a safe place.
