State the location and function of different types of meristems.
Meristem is a type of tissue found in plants. Meristem contains undifferentiated meristematic cells that are capable of cell division. Cells of the meristem can develop into the all other tissues and organs found in plants. Differentiated plant cells usually cannot divide into cells of a different type. On the basis of location, meristems have three types; apical meristem, intercalary meristem, and lateral meristem.
Location and function of different types of meristems:
- Apical meristem:
Location: They are found at the apices of the plant stems, apices of the roots, and at the root branches.
Function: Apical meristem helps in the growth of plants in length and it also helps in the formation of primary issues.
