The concept of Nationalism was in its nascent stages during the 18th and 19th centuries in Europe. It brought about sweeping changes socially and politically throughout various nations. Prior to the idea of Nationalism, most countries were ruled over by Monarchies and Absolutist rulers. However, with the consciousness of nationhood, citizens began to identify themselves within a nation and did not see Kings and Queens as their representatives who were unaware of their hardships.
