Although they are more expensive, multi-cultural research is more valuable in advancing cultural research. Frederick & Derald (2010), say bicultural research is predominant and is most of the knowledge base in research, but multicultural research is best for both cross-cultural psychology and counseling. This leads me to think it is valuable because it provides for clinicians to have a better understanding of their client's experiences through their own worldview. Also, for psychology, multi-cultural research helps to provide better, more accurate validity because they would not be using information gathered from one group and use it on another (Keith, 2019).

The advantages of involving a smaller number of countries than a larger one are that, as stated above, it is less expensive, the research is easier to construct validity in the tests, and it is easier for researchers to control outlying variables. Smaller groups mean researchers are able to spend less money to conduct the research. It is easier to create valid tests because comparisons between fewer groups mean controlling equivalence when testing across groups (Keith, 2019). Keith, 2019 quotes (Bernal et all, 2014) as saying, “Sadly, the idea that internal validity is primary to external validity continues to limit multicultural research,” which would mean this would be more difficult in larger groups.

The disadvantages are also stated at the beginning of this response, smaller groups do not offer research and counselors with a broader base of cultural information.
