Q//Toluene is produced from n-heptane by dehydrogenation:
CH,CH2CH2CH2CH2CH,CH, →CH,CH3 + 4H,
The toluene production process is started mixing of two streams
first contains 150 lbmol/hr of 95% n-heptane and 5% inert has
(Tb = -161.5 °C) at 65°F,1 atm and other stream contains 10 lb/hr
of H2 at 77 °F, 1 atm. The mixed stream is heated to 800 °F then fed
to a reactor which operates isothermally and convert 15% of n-
heptane to toluene. The product is cooled to 65 °F and fed to a
separator. Assuming that all of the units operate at atmospheric
pressure, determine:
1- Mole flowrate and composition of each stream.
2-Duty of each unit
3- Net heat duty of plant
4- Draw the effect of cooling temperature rise from (10 °F to
100 °F on molar flowrate of product gas hydrogen from
separator.
5- If the reactor operates adibatically, Adjust the temperature
feed stream of reactor to reach of reactor product
temperature of 900 °F
