Question

Question 3 : Please answer parts 1 & 2.

Problem 3
Water flows through a pipe fitting that splits the total flow into three
parts. The straight portions of the pipe have the same cross-sectional area A1 = A2 = 1 m2,
while the angled pipes share the cross-sectional area A3 = A4 = 2 m2. The angle between
the straight pipes and the stright pipe is a = 45 degrees.
1. Given the inlet flow rate Q = 5 m³/s, the exit velocity of the straight pipe v2 = 1 m/s,
find the exit velocity in the angled pipes.
2. The pipe fitting is anchored to the floor (gray) with a single screw (red). Assume
viscous forces are negligible, determine the x and y components of the force that the
pipe fitting exerts on the screw. Clearly illustrate the free body diagram of the pipe
fitting. Is your assumption valid?
