"Cross-cultural literacy is an understanding of how cultural differences of a country or nation can affect the way business is practiced. I think it's important for everyone to understand have some sort of basic understanding of cultural differences especially those who decide to work internationally because, as we read time and time again in our chapters, different countries and nations have different set of values and norms. If we have a business and want to expand it internationally, we must first research the country/nation that we want to make business with and try to understand and respect the way their society is set up in order to be successful in that country/nation as well. Understanding the way of life of someone from another culture prevents us from giving off the wrong impression. As a hispanic, the way I personally was raised, it is common to greet people we are close to with hugs and kissing gesture on the side a women's cheek and just a hug males. Here in the United States, I never met an American that gave me even a hug as a welcoming gesture unless it was one of my female friends. I had asked one of my friends why that is and she said Americans are more reserved and some think it's not appropriate to do that unless its your immediate family and even then, it's limited to just a hug or handshake."
