Question
Determine the following:
a) depth of water in the test well is ______ m
b) Transmissbility of the impermeable layer is _____ sq.m/s
c) Permeability of the aquifer is ____ m/s

Transcribed Image Text:A well with 0.6 diameter is constructed in a confined aquifer. The sand aquifer has a uniform thickness of 15m overlain by an impermeable
layer with a depth of 35m. A pumping test was conducted to determine the coefficient of permeability of the aquifer. The initial piezometric
surface was 15m below the ground surface datum of the test well and observation wells. After water was pumped at rate of 13 lit/sec for
several days, water levels in the wells stabilized with the following drawdowns, 6.4 m in the test well, 3.7 m in the observation well 10m
from the test well and 2.4 m in the second observation well at a distance 30m.

- Which of the following are characteristics of an unconfined aquifer. Select all that apply. Pore spaces are 100% filled with water. An artesian well results from digging into this aquifer. This aquifer is sandwiched between two impermeable layers. This aquifer can reach the ground surface if the water table depth is already shallow.arrow_forwardAn unconfined aquifer is 10 m thick and is being pumped so that one observation well placed at a distance 76 m shows a drawdown of 0.5 m. On the opposite side of the extraction well is another observation well 100 m from the extraction well, shows a drawdown of 0.3 m. Assume the coefficient of permeability of 50 m/day. a.) What is the discharge f the extraction well? b.) Suppose the well at 100 m from the extraction well is now pumped. Show with a sketch what this will do to the drawdown. c.) Suppose the aquifer sits on an aquaclude that has a slope of 1/100. Show with a sketch what this will do to the drawdown.arrow_forward
