 first walked to west direction 14 m and then 28 m to the north.

 it will form a right angle triangle, thus hypotenuse will be the distance between the initial and final position.

Using Pythagoras theorem,

           Hypotenuse2  = Perpendicular2 + Base2                          = 282 + 142                          = 980Hypotenuse    = 980                          =31.3 m

Thus the distance from initial position is 31.3 m.
